Bears Split at Flippin Classic

FLIPPIN, Ark. - Woodlawn led by as many as 14 in the first half before Kingston eventually found its shooting range as the Yellowjackets handed the Bears a 66-54 setback Saturday to split a pair games Woodlawn played at Flippin High School in north central Arkansas. Woodlawn knocked off the Class 3A Harrisburg Hornets, 63-47, in the first game of the series on Friday The Bears got off to a red hot start against the 'Jackets, scoring 21 in the first quarter and leading by as many as 14 in the first half. But Woodlawn Coach Logan Adair said Kingston (165) began to get dialed in starting the second quarter and stayed that way the rest of the game. "They shoot it extremely well," Adair said. "They pretty much can shoot one through five." Woodlawn led 21-14 at the end of the opening period before Kingston used an 18-8 second quarter to take a 32-29 lead into halftime. The Yellowjackets extended their lead to 46-36 by the end of the third. The loss ruined a nice game from sophomore Jude Roberts, who had 29 points. Garrett Weatherford followed with 10 while Jake Allred had eight. Adair noted that the Bears' second leading scorer, Raylon Lawson, did not play due to illness. Woodlawn fell to 8-5 overall with the non-conference loss. Woodlawn 63, Harrisburg 47 FLIPPIN, Ark. - After trailing for much of the first half, Harrisburg managed to move in front during the third quarter before the Woodlawn Bears came roaring back to pull away for a 6347 win over the Hornets during Friday night action at Flippin. Woodlawn was up 29-22 at the half and seemed to be cruising before Bears Coach Logan Adair said he pulled some of his starters for rest. Harrisburg quickly pounced, not only erasing the deficit but taking the lead.
