On the morning of January 17, 2024, Billy Ray Jones, 88 years old, passed away peacefully at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Billy Ray was born on June 4, 1935 and is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ruth Jones; his siblings, Thomas Jones, LaVern Morgan and Eloise Harris; and his granddaughter Lindsay Scobey.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlene Jones; and three daughters, Brenda Qualls (Cary), Beverly Scobey, and Becky Yarbrough (Billy Allen). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kelly Gilbert (Adam), Kristen Courtney (Jeremy), Katie Berryman (Kyle), Kandace Loetscher, Joe Brown (Alex), and Tye Brown (Blakely). He was also "pappaw" to 11 great-grandchildren, all living in Arkansas.
Billy Ray was a member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church and worked for Central Moloney in Pine Bluff for over 40 years. After his retirement, he continued to work as an electrician actively serving his community and was on the Woodlawn School Board. For many years, Billy Ray was known for producing one of the best tomato crops. Bailing hay and raising cattle were also some of his favorite pastimes. Billy Ray loved watching the Star City Lady dogs play, he rarely missed a game often sitting behind the bench. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Griffin Funeral Service Chapel in Star City with Bro. Doney Blackerby officiating. Burial was at Enon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Brown, Tye Brown, Adam Gilbert, Kyle Berryman, Jeremy Courtney, and Cary Qualls. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Allen Yarbrough, Robert Donald Curry, Michael Jones, and Morris Byrd.
