Lavaca Ends Woodlawn's Season; Bears 4th in Region

The Woodlawn Bears earned their first state tournament bid since 2019 last week but came up short at the Class 2A State Tournament being hosted by Mansfield High School Tuesday night with a 60-52 loss to the Lavaca Golden Arrows. Game details were not available at press time.Woodlawn earned a berth in the state tournament by defeating Spring Hill, 62-57, in the first round of the South Region Tournament last week. The Bears then dropped a couple of close ones, falling to Fordyce, 59-58, on a late basket, and the dropping a 53-45 decision to Junction City in the third place game.Woodlawn entered the state tournament as the no. 4 seed from the South Region while Lavaca was the no. 1 seed from the West Region. Neither team ever led by double digits.Early on, the momentum was with Woodlawn as Jake Allred and Raylon Lawson hit back-toback 3's to give Woodlawn a quick 6-0 lead.
