Trojans Hold Off Wildcats, 7-4

PARKERS CHAPEL - Rison finally began to cash in on some of its scoring opportunities late in the game, but it was too little, too late as the Parkers Chapel Trojans beat the Wildcats, 7-4, in 8-2A action last Wednesday at Parkers Chapel.Rison had lead-off singles to start the second, third and fourth innings, but the 'Cats could never bring any of those runners around to get on the board.Meanwhile, Parkers Chapel capitalized on its opportunities, using a sacrifice fly in the second, and three singles and an error in the third to go up 3-0.The Wildcats pushed their first run across in the top of the fifth on a bases-loaded walk to Matthew Howard with two out, making it a 3-1 game at that point.The Trojans answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth off a based-loaded walk and a passed ball.Rison filled the bases with one out in the sixth and scored on a fly ball by James Jacobs. The next batter flied out to leave runners stranded a first and third.Parkers Chapel strung together three hits to start the bottom of the sixth, and adding two runs to make it 7-2.The 'Cats did mount a comeback attempt in top of the seventh as Lawson Kidd singled, Howard walked and Andrew Couture singled to load the bases with no outs. Canon Cope's ground out plated one run and Brock Southerland's sacrifice fly made it 7-4 before a strikeout ended the game.Ayden Laws accounted for two of the Wildcats' eight hits in the game. Kidd, Howard, Couture, Cope, Southerland and Owen Morrison accounted for the other hits.Morrison was the starting pitcher for Rison, giving up five hits and one walk over two and one-third innings. He did not have a strikeout. Southerland threw the final three and two-third frames, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out six.The Wildcats fell to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in 8-2A conference play with the league loss....
