Surging 'Cats Blow Out Gurdon, 18-3

GURDON - Ayden Laws had three doubles to drive in four runs as the surging Rison Wildcats blew out the Gurdon Go Devils, 18-3, Monday afternoon in an 8-2A conference game at Gurdon.It marked Rison's third victory in its past four games with that lone loss coming in a 9-8 setback at top-ranked Woodlawn. The 'Cats improved to 4-7 overfall and 2-3 in conference play with the win.The Wildcats scored in each inning and put up 12 runs over the final two frames as the game was called after five innings by the 10-run rule.Rison took an 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Owen Morrison drew a bases-loaded walk with two out. Gurdon used a couple of singles and error in the bottom of the first to go up 2-1.Rison took the lead for good in the second when James Jacobs and Ethan Saeler walked to start the inning, and were then moved into scoring position by a sacrifice bunt from Lawson Kidd. Matthew Howard's single brought both home to put the Wildcats up 3-2.Laws drove in another run with his first double in the third inning before ground out by Ja-cobs scored another and Kidd made it home on a passed ball to extend Rison's lead to 6-2.The Go Devils scored their final run on a passed ball in the bottom of the third before Rison took total control of the game.Couture walked and Brock Southerland followed with a double to put runners at second and third to start the fourth inning. Canon Cope and Owen Morrison brought both runners home with back-to-back sacrifice flies before Laws had a double and Jacobs walked. Laws and Jacobs both scored on errors, and Ethan Saeler then stole home to make it 11-3 'Cats.Three hit batters along with a walk, a double by Laws and singles by Thomas Wilson, Mason Weaver, Cope, Morrison and Howard produced seven more runs in the top of the fifth, invoking the 10-run rule.Laws went 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs for the game.
