Agnes McClain, 100, was born on July 4, 1926 in Dermott, AR to Rhett and Della West Ashcraft. She departed this earth on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Greenhouse Cottages of Southern Hills in Rison, Arkansas.
She was married to Arthur Brooks McClain on March 2, 1946, in Star City, AR by Rev. Noel Cross. Brooks passed away May 9, 2002.
Also predeceasing her are her son, Arthur Zehe McClain; sisters, Faye Jones and Edith Ashcraft; and brothers, Curtis Ashcraft, Mitchell Ashcraft, Dale Ashcraft and Troys Ashcraft.
Agnes was a member of Greenlee Baptist Church since 1951. She retired from Dillard’s Department Store in Pine Bluff in 1988 after over 25 years of service.
She loved her flowers, gardening, reading, and working crossword puzzles.
Agnes is survived by a daughter, Debbie Lester and husband Roy; a sister, Wilma Gene Adams of Coos Bay, Oregon; and a daughter-in-law, Denise McClain. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Shannon Brock (Larry), Shelly Kalkbrenner (Jason), Carly McClain (John) and Chloe Dale (Brian); two grandsons, Shawn Lester (Shannon) and Tracy McClain (Rebekha); 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, October 9, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son. Her funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Brother James Watson officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Rye.
