Michael Bruce McGee, former musician and constniction project manager, entered eternal rest peacefully in his MD home on Friday, October 13th, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harland and Ocen McGee, and his brother, Malcolm 'Fuzzy' McGee. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia McGee of Potomac, MD; his three children, daughter Melissa Tubbs (Jeff) of Maumelle, AR, sons Harland McGee of Potomac, MD and Alexander McGee of Potomac, MD; and his sister, Barbara McGee of Gretna, LA. He is also survived by one Grandson, William Jameson Tubbs.
Michael was bom in Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans, LA, growing up in the Irish Channel neighborhood until eventually moving to Gretna. His love of woodworking and constniction began with employment at Jefferson Door Company. As he worked full time for Jefferson Door, he also attended night classes at Delgado Junior College and Loyola University's School of Architecture. Beginning a career with Gilbert Engineering Constniction allowed him to further his skills and knowledge. This experience would lead to him to projects as far as Guam and then eventually the Washington D.C. area, where he would finally retire.
Michael was an avid traveler and a skilled musician. He played over six instniments, but by far, his favorite was the saxophone. He played in several local musical groups, including Bobby Cure & the Summertime Blues, Streetcar, and the Nifty Fifties. His musical talent allowed him the opportunity to play in multiple venues across the state of Louisiana and Mississippi. He had traveled across the globe as far as Saipan, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
A public memorial visitation will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gretna, LA on October 28, 2023 beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by a dedicated Mass at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
