10 YEARS AGO MAY 25, 2016 Cleveland County is one of only five counties from across the state to receive a grant from the Arkansas Secretary of State's office to buy new stateof-the-art election equipment that will replace the county's aging election devices. County Clerk Jimmy Cummings, whose office oversees all elections in the county, said the county was awarded a $251,900 grant to buy new equipment that will replace the existing electronic voting machines that were beginning to have more frequent breakdowns on election day.CASA Karaoke and a new 'Double Up Food Bucks' program for SNAP customers will highlight the 2016 grand opening of the Rison Farmers Market beginning this Thursday afternoon in the Community Park downtown. Rison Farmers Market manager John Appleget said Rison has been selected as one of the farmers markets from across the state to be used in the 'Double Up Food Bucks' pilot program.The organizers of the New Edinburg Farmers Market grand opening held Saturday are calling the event a great success and are already making plans to repeat the event in the future. Re-New-ing Edinburg, a grassroots community development organization that is part of the Kickstart Cleveland County campaign, organized the grand opening event that included a community-wide rummage sale, a 5K race/walk and the opening of the New Edinburg Farmers Market at its new location inside the old New Edinburg Fire Station. One longtime community resident said that it had been several years since he had seen so many people in New Edinburg.Reece Michels tossed a threehitter to help lead the Woodlawn Bears to a 2-0 victory over the Junction City Dragons for the Class 2A state baseball championship Saturday at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.
