Bears Edge Stuttgart 4-3 in Ninth

STUTTGART - Parker Arnold’s double in the top of the seventh tied the game and Cash Hargis’ then singled in Tyler French in the top of the ninth inning as the Woodlawn Bears used some clutch hits late to get past the Class 4A Stuttgart Ricebirds, 4-3, Tuesday at Stuttgart.It was Woodlawn’s third straight win as the Bears improved to 3-1 overall.Woodlanw went up 1-0 in the top of the first when Hargis drew a lead-off walk and then scored on Arnold’s single.Stuttgart tied the game in the fourth when the ‘Birds scored on an error.The Bears regained the lead in the top of fifth when Arnold’s liner to left scored Ethan Saeler to make it 2-1 Woodlawn.That lead didn’t last long, however, as Stuttgart plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth off an error, two hits and a sacrifice fly to give the Ricebirds their first lead, 3-2.It stayed that way until the top of the seventh Tyner Burris and Saeler started the frame with back-to-back hits before Arnold belted his double to tie the game, 3-3, and send it into extra innings.Arnold was the spark for the Woodlawn offense, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Hargis, Burris and Saeler also had hits.The Bears used four pitchers in the game with French getting the win by holding the ‘Birds to one hit and one walk with three strikeouts over the final two frames. Hollis Holderfield pitched the first three innings followed by Ty Motes for one-and-one-third inning, and Logan Clark for two-and-two-third innings.Coach Tommy Richardson said Saturday’s doubleheader against Camden Fairview and Carlisle was canceled.Woodlawn 18, McGehee 2WOODLAWN - Tyler French drove in four runs while Ethan Saeler and Logan Clark had three RBIs apiece as the Woodlawn Bears hammered the McGehee Owls, 18-2, to give the Woodlawn Bears their first home victory over the season last Thursday.The Bears brought home 11 runs...
