Bears Get ‘Bye;’ Face Dierks

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Bears will go into this week’s Class 2A Region 4 Tournament as the no. 1 seed from the 8-3A conference after district tournament officials agreed to forego the championship round due to weather delays and let the regular season conference finish determine the regional seedings.Woodlawn went into the 8-3A District Tournament at Parkers Chapel as the no. 1 seed after going unbeaten in league play at 8-0. When weather delayed the opening rounds of the tournament, Parkers Chapel officials decided to forego the Saturday championship round for baseball, and allow the regular season finish determine the regional seeds.Woodlawn, which is hosting the Region 4 Tournament, is scheduled to face the Dierks Outlaws, the no. 4 seed from the 7-2A conference, at 10 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Field. The winner of that game will face the winner between Spring Hill and Ouachita at noon Friday at Woodlawn.A victory Thursday assures the Bears of another trip to the Class 2A State Tournament, which will be held May 15-17 at Palestine-Wheatley High School.Dierks enters the game with an overall record of 8-11. The Outlaws went 8-6 in conference play to finish fourth in the 7-2A behind Murfreesboro, Spring Hill and Mountain Pine.Woodlawn enters the game with a 25-5 overall record, having won 13 of their final 14 games. The Bears are looking to make their fifth consecutive state tournament since COVID canceled the 2020 season....
