Bears Rolling As Roberts Hits 2,000th Point

PARKERS CHAPEL - An explosive third quarter by the Woodlawn Bears essentially put the game away as they rolled to a 59-40 win over the Parkers Chapel Trojans Tuesday night at Parkers Chapel.Woodlawn improved to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in 8-2A conference play with the win. As the season winds down to its final stretch, the Bears find themselves in the thick of the conference championship race. After Tuesday night's action, Woodlawn is one game behind league-leading Hampton (10-1) and a half game behind Junction City (10-2). The Bears beat Junction City 61-44 at home.Woodlawn, like other conference teams, is playing a full slate of games this week to make up for the games that were postponed due to the winter storm.The Bears will host Poyen tonight (Wednesday) in another key 8-2A contest before hitting the road for a monster match-up with Junction City on Friday. Woodlawn also heads to Magnet Cove on Saturday.The Bears were up 29-17 at halftime when the put up 25 points in the third quarter to take a comfortable 54-29 lead into the final period.Evan Donnell made three 3pointers in the third to help ignite the run. As a team, Woodlawn had nine 3's in the game. Jude Roberts and Chandler Freyer had two apiece.Roberts led the Bears with 18 points, 16 of which came in the first half before Coach Logan Adair put in the reserves for much of the second half.Donnell and Jake Allred finished with nine points while Ethan Saeler had eight.Roberts Hits Milestone FORDYCE - A free throw in the third quarter gave Woodlawn senior Jude Roberts his 2,000th career point as the Bears rolled to a 71-57 victory over the Fordyce Redbugs in an 8-2A conference game Monday night. Roberts, who has committed to play for the University of Arkasas at Monticello next season, finished with 31 points against the 'Bugs.
