Class 4A Opponents Tough on Lady Bears

WOODLAWN - Despite wrapping up the 8-2A conference championship last Friday, the Woodlawn Lady Bears added two more non-conference games this weeek in advance of the Class 2A South Region Tournament that begins Thursday in Horatio. All three of their final nonconference games came against Class 4A schools, dropping all three The Lady Bears fell to Monticello 1-0 last Tuesday (April 25), to Nashville 13-2 on Monday (May 1) and to Hamburg 13-0 on Tuesday (May 2). Here is a recap of each of those games: Hamburg 13, Woodlawn 0 WOODLAWN - Hamburg started the game with back-toback singles that led to three runs scoring as the Lady Lions jumped out to a quick lead before cruising to a 13-0 victory in five innings over the Woodlawn Lady Bears in a non-conference action Tuesday at Lady Bear Field. The Lady Lions used back-toback doubles in the second to add three more runs before ringing up seven in the top of the fifth off four singles, a double and two errors, invoking the 10run rule. Kaitlyn Webb had two of Woodlawn's five hits in the game. Ann Fitzgibbon, Lillie McWhorter and Kendall Tooke all had one hit apiece. Freshman Jaimie Simmons pitched all five innings for the Lady Bears. Nashville 13, Woodlawn 3 NASHVILLE - Woodlawn scored two runs in the top of the first to take an early lead but eight errors proved to be their undoing as they Lady Bears fell 13-3 to the Nashville Lady Scrappers in non-conference action Monday at Nashville. Jaci Hoyt and Kathryn Dixon led off the game with singles before Anna Fitzgibbon drove in a run with a ground out and Lille McWhorter followed with an RBI single. Nashville turned a couple of errors in the second inning into a run, but Kendall Tooke got it back with an RBI double in the top of the third, making it 3-1 Lady Bears.
