Jones Throws Three TDs To Pace Jr. Bear Victory

HERMITAGE - Greyson Jones passed for three first-half touchdowns as the Woodlawn Junior Bears jumped out to a huge halftime lead before cruising to a 3212 victory over the Hermitage Junior Hermits last Friday afternoon at Hermitage.Jones, an 8th grader, had a 15yard strike to Easton Franks to cap an eight-play, 55-yard drive to start the game. Jones ran in the conversion to put the Junior Bears up 8-0 with 4:41 left in the first.After a fumble recovery by the Junior Bears on the Junior Hermits’ ensuing possession, Jones hit tight end Miles West for a 24yard TD at the 3:36 mark of the opening frame. Jones again tacked on the two-pointer with a run to make it 16-0.Woodlawn’s Logan Doss dropped the Junior Hermits for a 10-yard loss on fourth down to give the Junior Bears a first down at the Hermitage 25. After a 19yard scamper by Woodlawn’s Carson Young, Brody Richardson scored from a yard out with 12 seconds left in the first quarter. Young took in the conversion run as well to make it 24-0 after the opening period.Hermitage was forced to punt on its next series, and Jones struck quickly with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Franks. Young was successful on the twopoint run to make it 32-0 with 5:21 left in the first half.Woodlawn Coach Michael Anderson decided to play his 7th graders on both offense and defense from that point on.The Junior Hermits scored on a 71-yard run on the first play of the third quarter, and on a 33yard mn in the fourth quarter. Woodlawn stopped both conversion attempts.Jones finished the game completing three-of-four pass attempts for 95 yards and three touchdowns. Young led the Junior Bears in rushing with 65 yards on seven carries.Woodlawn improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in South Conference play with the win.
