Jr. Bears Drop Opener, 36-6

WOODLAWN - Brinkley cashed in on some big plays early as the Junior Tigers turned back an early Woodlawn scoring threat to knock off the Junior Bears, 36-6, in a non-conference game Friday afternoon at the Carl Jones Sports Complex. It was the season opener for the Junior Bears, who are now 0-1 on the season. The loss snapped a 14-game win streak by the junior high program. Woodlawn recovered an onside kick to start the game as was putting a nice drive together as a 17-yard run by Matthew Green give the Junior Bears a first-and-goal at the Brinkley 10. However, the Junior Tigers recovered an fumbled snap on the next play and returned it to the Brinkley 40. Two plays later, the Junior Tigers were ripping off a 56-yard touchdown run to give them a 6-0 lead with 1:47 left in the opening quarter. And the Junior Tigers did not let up from there, recovering back-to-back onside kick attempts and scoring off runs of 39 and 54 yards, respectively, to quickly build a 20-0 lead. Woodlawn finally answered on a 26-yard touchdown run by Aiden Chancellor with 4:05 left in the second quarter to make to close the deficit to 20-6.
