Jr. 'Cats Blank Lake Village; Have Chance at 8-3A Title

The Rison Junior Wildcats made the long road trip to Lake Village on Tuesday night - and made it worth every mile - cruising to a 44-0 shutout victory over the Lakeside Beavers.Quarterback Logan McGarity put Rison on the board first with a 3-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, then connected with Izzy Hamilton for a successful two-point conversion to give the Junior Wildcats an early 8-0 lead.McGarity and Hamilton struck again moments later, this time through the air on a 36-yard touchdown pass with about 30 seconds left in the opening quarter. The two-point attempt was converted on an option pitch from McGarity to Payne Prescott, extending the lead to 16-0.In the second quarter, McGarity continued his strong night with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Prescott midway through the period, then added the two-point conversion himself on a quarterback keeper. With less than a minute left in the half, McGarity found Hamilton again - this time from 23 yards out - to make it 30-0 at halftime.The Rison defense kept the momentum going in the second half, as Dylan Berg recovered a fumble early in the third quarter. Prescott quickly capitalized, breaking loose for a 38-yard touchdown run with 5:51 to play in the period, putting the mercy rule into effect.The Junior 'Cats capped the scoring in the fourth quarter when Michael Kanneh raced 39 yards for a touchdown, followed by a 3-yard two-point conversion from Bryant Branch to seal the 44-0 win.Rison's defense turned in another dominant performance, recording its second consecutive shutout and keeping the Beavers out of the end zone all night.With the victory, the Junior Wildcats now turn their attention to Thursday's season finale at Fordyce, where the 8-3A conference championship will be on the line.Rison enters the game with a 51 mark in conference play while Fordyce is undefeated at 6-0.
