Jr. 'Cats Score Early, Often In Blowing Out Drew Central

RISON - The Rison Junior Wildcats used a dominant defense and explosive plays on offense and special teams to power past the Drew Central Junior Pirates, 46-14, last Thursday night at George Walker Field of Champions.Rison improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in 8-3A conference play with the victory.The fireworks began early as Payne Prescott returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, and Deion Jones added the two-point conversion to give Rison an 8-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game.After forcing a three-and-out, the Wildcats struck again on their first offensive play - a 56yard touchdown run by Jones. Prescott added the conversion for a 16-0 advantage with 5:27 remaining in the opening quarter.Both teams exchanged turnovers before Trent Southerland intercepted a Drew Central pass at the Rison 22-yard line, halting a Junior Pirate scoring chance. The Junior 'Cats capitalized, marching 78 yards in eight plays, capped by a 14-yard touchdown run from Prescott. Michael Kennah added the two-point run for a 24-0 lead with 6:29 left in the half.The Wildcats' defense continued to dominate, recovering a fumble deep in Junior Pirate ter-ritory with 3:14 left before halftime. Prescott scored again, this time on a 15-yard run, pushing the lead to 30-0. Then, with less than two minutes left, Isaiah Hamilton recovered another fumble to set up a five-play, 65yard scoring drive. Logan Mc-Garity connected with Prescott for a 22-yard touchdown pass with just 0.9 seconds remaining. Jones' conversion gave Rison a commanding 38-0 halftime lead.Drew Central managed two third-quarter touchdowns - one on an 84-yard pass and another on a 40-yard fumble return - but Rison quickly regained control. The Wildcats closed the game with an eight-play, 50-yard drive capped by a five-yard touchdown pass from McGarity to Jones.
