WOODLAWN - A 17-7 second quarter by Ouachita provided just the cushion it needed as the Junior Warriors knocked off the Woodlawn Juniors Bears, 53-44, in the 8-2A season opener last Friday at Woodlawn.
Ouachita turned an 11-9 first quarter into a 28-16 cushion by halftime, and that margin would prove to be enough to secure the win as the two teams played nearly even in the second half with Woodlawn having a 28-25 scoring edge.
Jude Roberts continued his great start of the season for the Junior Bears by knocking down 22 while Jake Allred, seeing his first action after missing a week due to illness, had 13.
Woodlawn Coach Logan Adair noted that eighth graders Landan Pratt and Cash Hargis both hit 3-pointers in the game. He also pointed out that Roberts has scored 20 points in eight of the 10 games he has played to start the season.
Woodlawn fell to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in league play with the loss.
