Lady Bear Rally Falls Short to Ouachita, 49-44

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn saw a second-half rally come up short Friday night as the Ouachita Lady Warriors held on for a 49-44 win over the Lady Bears in the 8-2A conference opener at the Woodlawn Gym. Ouachita took control early, jumping out to an 18-8 lead in the first quarter before extending it to 31-19 by halftime. But Woodlawn began chipping away in the third, cutting the Lady Warriors' lead to eight, 3931, by the start of the fourth. The Lady Bears managed to pull even and tie the game with about two minutes left but Ouachita put a late run together to secure the victory. Freshman Jaci Hoyt led Woodlawn in scoring with 12 while Kathryn Dixon and Faith Hisaw both drained three 3-pointers apiece to finish with nine points each. Woodlawn fell to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play with the setback. Bismarck 34, Woodlawn 32 The Lady Lions hit three 3pointers in the third quarter as Bismarck overcame a five-point halftime deficit to pull out a 34-32 win over the Woodlawn Bears last Tuesday in non-conference action at Bismarck. Woodlawn was up 16-11 at the halftime when the Lady Lions hit three triples in the third to outscore the Lady Bears, 15-6, to take a 26-22 lead going into the fourth. Woodlawn pulled to within two, but could never get over the hump. Lady Bears Coach Logan Adair noted that they hit just nine of 22 free throw attempts in the game.
