Lady Bears’ Season Ends

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Lady Bears’ 2025-26 season came to a close Tuesday night after they fell to the Gurdon Lady Go Devils, 57-47, in the second round of the 8-2A District Tournament at Junction City. Game details were not available.The Lady Bears needed to advane to the district semifinals to extend their season into the regional tournament. Woodlawn finishes the year with a 12-15 overall record and 8-8 mark in conference play. Hampton 45, Woodlawn 41The Hampton Bulldogs erased a seven-point halftime deficit in the third quarter as the Lady Bulldogs rallied to pull out a 45-41 win over the Woodlawn Lady Bears in an pivotal 8-2A conference game last Friday night at Woodlawn.The Lady Bears got off to a strong start as a couple of 3-pointers by Jaci Hoyt and another from Preslee Mack gave Woodlawn a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bears held Hampton to just three points in the second period as they pushed their lead to 21-13 at the break.Hampton began its comeback in the third quarter as a couple of long distance ringers pulled the Lady ‘Dogs even, 25-25, by the start of the fourth quarter.Woodlawn, however, lost one of their leading scorers down the stretch when Hoyt fouled out and Addison Holland joined her on the bench as well.Hampton’s JaKayla Stephens began to heat up, scoring seven points in the final frame to force overtime with the teams knotted up 36-36. She had a game-high 16 after scoring just two in the first half.The Lady Bears went 5-of-8 from the free throw line in the OT, but did not hit a field goal. A 3-pointer by Hampton’s Bessie Sellars help seal the game for the Lady ‘Dogs.Kelsi Mack led Woodlawn with 13 while Hoyt had 11 before fouling out....
