Lady 'Cats Drop 6-2A Games To PC, Gurdon

RISON - Destiny Lea scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the second half but it wasn't enough to pull the Rison Lady Wildcats out of a 15-point halftime deficit as the Parkers Chapel Lady Trojans held on for a 50-44 win in 6-2A conference action last Friday at the Rison Gym. After finishing the first quarter with a 9-5 lead, Parkers Chapel's Bella Friday and Grace Rainwater combined to score 17 of the Lady Trojans' 18 points in the second quarter as they went up 27-12 at halftime. Rison began chipping away at that lead in the third as Lea scored nine points in the frame and Layne Potter hit her third trey of the game to cut PC's lead to 37-26 to start the fourth quarter. Lea added six more points in the final period while Carlese Johnson had seven to continue cutting into the Lady Trojan lead. However, it wasn't enough at the end as Chapel held on for the six-point win. In addition to Lea's 17, Potter had 12. The Lady Wildcats fell to 1-3 in conference play with loss and 6-5 overall. Gurdon 62, Rison 44 GURDON - A slow start put the Rison Lady Wildcats in a hole they could never recover from as the Gurdon Lady Go Devils cruised to a 62-44 victory in a 6-2A conference game last Tuesday at Gurdon. Rison managed just one field goal and one free throw in the first quarter as Gurdon went up 12-3. The Lady 'Cats did find a bit more offense in the second as they won the frame 12-9 to go into halftime down 21-15. The Lady Devils' Camelia Ashford, however, came out red hot in the third quarter as she knocked down two 3-pointers and scored 10 points to extend Gurdon's lead to 40-26 by the start of the final period. The Lady Devils didn't slow down in the fourth, scoring 22 points to close out the game. ...
