MAUMELLE - A two-out single by Maumelle Charter’s Wade Weston drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth as the Falcons edged the Rison Wildcats, 2-1, in a pitching duel last Thursday at Maumelle.Rison took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Noah Matheson drew a two-out walk and Mason Weaver got aboard on an error, scoring Matheson.In the bottom of the fifth, the Falcons’ Brecken Poteat singled with one out and eventually scored on an error to tie the game, 1-1.Weaver, pitching in relief of starting pitcher Matheson, retired the first two Maumelle batters he faced in the bottom of the sixth before walking Nathan Westmoreland, who stole second and then scored on Weston’s single.Rison went three-up, three-down to end the game.Both teams finished with just four hits apiece.Matheson, Brayden Terry, Easton Billings and Kyson Walker accounted for the four Wildcat hits. Terry and Billings had their hits back-to-back with one out in the fourth to put runners at first and second, but a strikeout and batter’s interference call turned back the scoring threat.Matheson started on the mound for Rison, giving up two hits and two walks with six strikeouts over three innings. Weaver threw the final three frames, giving up two hits, one walk and four strikeouts.Rison fell to 0-2 with the loss.
