Lawson’s Late Points Lifts Bears Past Parkers Chapel

PARKERS CHAPEL - Raylon Lawson scored six of his 18 points in the final two minutes of the game as he sparked a late run to help the Woodlawn Bears secure a 63-55 win over the Parkers Chapel Trojans last Friday night in 8-2A conference action at Parkers Chapel. Neither team was able to pull away from the other as Woodlawn led 16-12 after the first quarter and was up 29-28 at halftime. The Bears managed to add a point to that margin by the end of the third, leading 40-38 to start the final period. Bears Coach Logan Adair said Lawson was battling foul issues for much of the second half, and sat out about the first 5:30 of the fourth quarter before returning to ice the game for Woodlawn down the stretch. With Lawson sidelined, Landen Booth and Jaxson Martin paced the Bears’ offense with 14 points apiece. Woodlawn improved to 3-2 in conference play and 9-7 overall with the win. Woodlawn 78, Gurdon 39 WOODLAWN - Woodlawn dominated from the start as it built a huge lead early and was never threatened the rest of the way as the Bears blast the Gurdon Go Devils, 78-39, in an 8-2A conference game  last Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Woodlawn. The Bears took total control early, leading a 33-4 by the end of the first quarter before extending that to a 56-16 lead  by halftime. Despite emptying his bench, Woodlawn was up 71-26 by the end of the third. Landen Booth led all scorers with 19 points followed by Raylon Lawson with 18. Coach Logan Adair noted that Lawson scored 16 of his points in the Bears’ 33-point opening period. Jaxson Martin had 11 for Woodlawn while Hayden Rushing had seven, Brayden Kitchens had six and Brandon Barnett had five.   ...
