Long TD Pass Propels Jr. ‘Bugs Past Jr. ‘Cats

RISON - A 67-yard touchdown pass by Fordyce with 9 seconds left in the first half broke open a close game, and the Junior Redbugs used their superior athleticism and big plays to turn back the Rison Junior High Wildcats, 42-12, in a 6-3A Conference game at George Walker Field of Champions last Thursday night. The loss dropped Rison to 2-2 in the conference and 2-4 on the season. The Junior 'Cats will go to Lake Village Thursday night for a conference tussle with the Junior Beavers. Kickoff time is scheduled for 7 o'clock. The Wildcats will return home for their regular season finale on October 27 against Barton, also a 6-3A Conference contest. Against Fordyce, the Wildcats fell behind, 14-0, in the opening quarter. However, the 'Cats responded with three first downs in driving as far as the Redbugs' 22 before turning the ball over on downs. On the next play, though, Fordyce fumbled and Galvin Wilson covered for Rison at the Redbugs' 16. A 7-yard pass completion from quarterback Kyson Walker to Spencer Towery moved Rison to the 10 before the Redbugs stiffened to hold the Wildcats with 2:04 left in the half. Then with 9 seconds to go before the break, the 'Bugs used the 67-yard TD pass to grab a commanding 20-0 lead at the half. Fordyce increased its advantage to 34-0 before Rison got on the scoreboard with a 41-yard touchdown run by Braylin Bennett. Bennett also scored on a 33-yard TD scamper, while Fordyce had one more big TD bomb that set the final margin at 42-12. ...
