RISON - Piling up over 350 yards of offense enroute to a commanding lead before the midway point of the second quarter, the Rison Wildcats, on a quick turnaround from their tough victory at Haskell Harmony Grove last Friday, downed the Stuttgart Ricebirds junior varsity, 36-6, at George Walker Field of Champions Tuesday night.The win improved Rison to 30 on the season, as the 'Cats will now wait until Friday, Sept. 27, for their next action, the 8-3A Conference opener at Palestine-Wheatley. Tuesday night's game was arranged when a Sept. 20 game with Murfreesboro failed to materialize when the contract for the contest went unsigned earlier this year. Head coach Chris Vereen said Stuttgart coach Josh Price was gracious to bring the Ricebirds JV to town to keep Rison from going a full two weeks without seeing action.Here Tuesday night, the Wildcats had 353 yards on 20 plays, an average of over 17 yards per snap, and a 36-0 lead at the 5:35 mark of the second period to start the "sportsmanship clock," scoring on each of their five possessions in the opening half. The first quarter was a full 12 minutes, with the second quarter at 10 minutes, and the final two pe-riods at 8 minutes each with the clock running.Stuttgart avoided the shutout with under a minute left in the game, when quarterback Axton McCrae made a 6-yard TD pass to Hunter Endres.On Rison's first offensive snap, quarterback Kyson Walker faked a handoff and kept for a 57-yard touchdown run with just 1:48 gone in the game. Leo Ramos tacked on the first of his two PAT kicks, and it was 7-0. Walker added 68-yard TD scamper with 3:39 to go in the first period, when the score swelled to 28-0.Rison's second touchdown came after a 63-yard run by Christian Reeves to the Stuttgart 21.
