Rison’s Laws, Reeves, Wilson Named to All-State Team

RISON - A trio of senior two-way performers for the Rison Wildcats - Ayden Laws, Chandler Reeves and Thomas Wilson - have been named to the 2024 Class 3A All-State football team, it has been announced by head coach Chris Vereen. Four other Wildcats - senior Keyshawn Haywood, junior Jaquis Rauls, and sophomores Christian Reeves and Kyson Walker - also joined Laws, Reeves and Wilson as members of this year’s 8-3A All-Conference team.All selections are made by the respective coaches of the 8-3A Conference.The seven Wildcats receiving post-season recognition, along with numerous other players on the squad, were instrumental in Rison rebounding from last year's 3-8 record to go 10-2 in 2024 before being ousted in the second round of the state playoffs.Laws, a three-year starter for the ‘Cats, was moved from the offensive line to a fullback position this season and also held down an outside linebacker post. Commenting about Laws, Vereen said, “he is the epitome of a high school football player. He is physical, tough, and just a raw bone football player. He was lead blocker from the fullback position, which is a job, and he took a beating a lot of the time, but was outstanding in helping our offense go. He was also outstanding on defense.”At fullback, Laws had 72 carries for 354 yards with a rushing touchdown against McGehee. He also served as deep snapper for punts, and on defense he was Rison’s second leading tackler with 77, including 50 assists, 16 solo stops, and 11 tackles for a loss or sack. Laws had one pass interception that he returned for a touchdown against Dumas.Running back Chandler Reeves rushed for 750 yards on 76 carries, an average of 9.8 yards per carry, the bulk of that after overcoming an early-season ankle injury which limited his totals in games two through four.
