Roberts Scores 33 To Pace Bears; Maumelle Turns Back Woodlawn

WOODLAWN - Jude Roberts scored 33 points and Woodlawn connected on 10 3-pointers as the Bears built a big lead early before cruising to a 72-42 win over the Nemo Vista Red Hawks in the season opener last Thursday night at the Woodlawn Gym.Roberts, who signed last Friday to play collegiately at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, scored nine of his points in the first quarter as Woodlawn went up 17-6 by the end of the opening period.The Bears added 26 more points in the second as Roberts, Cash Hargis, Evan Donnell and Jake Allred all drained 3’s to extend Woodlawn’s lead to 43-14 at halftime.In addition to Roberts, Hargis, Donnell and Allred, Spencer Towery and Cranford made 3-pointers as well.Hargis finished with seven points while Allred and Towery both had six.Maumelle Charter 79, Woodlawn 69WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Bears managed to trim a 12-point halftime deficit to five by the end of the third quarter, but the Maumelle Charter Falcons responded in the fourth quarter to come away with a 79-69 win at the Woodlawn gym Monday night.The Falcons hit five of their nine 3-pointers in the first half as they built a 38-26 lead at halftime.Jude Roberts, after scoring two points in the first half, came to life with nine points in the third quarter as 3’s by Evan Donnell and Jake Allred helped the Bears pull to within 58-53 to start the fourth quarter.But Maumelle Charter was able to answer in the fourth to preserve the victory.Roberts and Allred led the Woodlawn scorers with 16 apiece while Donnell, who had a team-high three 3’s, finished with 11.The Bears fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss....
