Roberts Scores 43; Bears Win 7th Straight

MIDWAY, Ark. - Jude Roberts scored 43 points as Woodlawn built a 16-point first-quarter to pace the Bears to a 71-58 victory over the Ouachita Warriors in an 8-2A conference game Friday night at Ouachita.Roberts had eight points in the opening period, including a half-court shot at the buzzer put Woodlawn up 23-7 to close out the opening period. The Bears’ Ethan Saeler had eight points in that explosive first quarter before having to go to the bench with foul trouble, which haunted him in the second half as well.With Saeler out, Woodlawn Coach Logan Adair said the Warriors were able to utilize more of their inside game to cut the deficit to 36-25 by halftime and 52-44 by the start of the fourth. Woodlawn, however, responded in the final frame to pull away for the 13-point victory.It marked the Bears’ seventh straight win, all coming by double digits, as they improved to 14-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.Woodlawn traveled to Hampton for a big 8-2A battle with the Bulldogs Tuesday night as both teams entered the game with 5-0 league marks.Woodlawn 61, Junction City 44WOODLAWN - Woodlawn hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Bears took an early lead and pulled away in the second half for a big 61-44 win over the Junction City Dragons in a key 8-2A conference clash last Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Woodlawn Gym.Jake Allred hit two 3’s while Jude Roberts and Spencer Towery had one apiece as the Bears jumped out to an 18-10 lead by the end of the opening frame. Junction City was able to cut the deficit to four, 29-25, by halftime, but that was as close as it got as the Bears pulled away over the final two quarters.
