Struggling Wildcats, Beavers to Clash In 6-3A Conference Battle This Friday

RISON - Two struggling teams will meet Friday night in Chicot County, where the Rison Wildcats will face the Lake Village Beavers in a 6-3A Conference battle that will end with one of the squads erasing a losing streak and gaining their first league victory. Kickoff time at Beaver Stadium is scheduled for 7 o'clock. The Wildcats will bring a mark of 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference into the contest, while the Beavers are 1-4 and 0-2. Like Rison, Lake Village has yielded a bunch of points in its first two league outings, the Beavers losing to Barton, 57-8, and Drew Central, 52-8. So, something has to give when these two foes meet. The Beavers did open the season with a 28-22 win over West Bolivar, Mississippi, before losing to Junction City and Dumas in one-sided contests. The Beavers have not played since October 6, when they lost to Drew Central. "We're going to face an athletic team (Lake Village)," Rison head coach Caleb Carmikle said Monday. "They will be much more athletic than we are, and that makes for concern." Of course, Rison fans have to only think back to last year's meeting here, when the Wildcats led Lake Village by just 42-34 with less than 4 minutes to go in the game. A late touchdown run gave the 'Cats some breathing room, as they survived a 49-34 shootout. More importantly, though, the athletic Beavers piled up over 350 yards of offense in the game, using their athleticism to an advantage against the Wildcats. "We will have to be ready on defense, and because of the advantage they (Lake Village) will have athletically, it will put stress on us to make stops," Carmikle stated. The R.H.S. mentor added that defensive back Treyvione Wainwright has been cleared to return for action after injuring his shoulder earlier in the season, and linebacker Ayden Laws will be able to play a full game after being limited to just fourth quarter action against Fordyce following disqualification in the Harmony Grove contest. ...
