PARKERS CHAPEL - The resurgent Rison Wildcats find themselves right in the thick of a battle for third place in the 8-2A conference standings after Jud Terry went the distance in shutting out the Parkers Chapel Trojans 4-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon.
After Tuesday's games, Rison was tied with Fordyce for fourth in the league standings. Both teams were at 5-5 and trail third place 5-4 Parkers Chapel by a half-game.
The top four teams in the final standings will advance to the Class 2A South Region Tournament. Woodlawn currently leads the standings at 9-0 followed by Ouachita at 5-3.
Rison has just two conference games left. The Wildcats are scheduled to host Woodlawn this Friday, April 21, and Gurdon next Friday, April 28.
Parkers Chapel still has road games at Fordyce and Junction City before hosting Ouachita.
Fordyce hosts Parkers Chapel before traveling to Gurdon for its final league game.
Terry turned in one of this strongest outings this season as the senior held the Trojans to four hits and gave up just one walk over seven innings. He had three strikeouts.
The 'Cats scored all four of their runs in the in the third inning.
Terry drew a walk to start the frame, and one out later, Blaine Dixon walked as well. With two on, Owen Morrison singled to center to score both runners.
The next two batters, Matthew Howard and Andrew Couture, were hit by pitches to load the bases. After a strikeout for the second out, Ayden Laws was hit by another pitched to push a run across and then Lawson Kidd singled to drive in one more, making it 4-0.
Parkers Chapel threatened in the bottom of the seventh when the first two batters singled. Terry preserved his shutout, however, by getting a fielder's choice followed by two strikeouts.
Rison had just four hits in the game as well. Terry, Dixon, Morrison and Kidd accounted for those hits with Dixon stroking a double.
