RISON - Noah Matheson, Mason Weaver and CJ Edwards combined to throw a perfect game Monday as the Rison Wildcats blanked the Dumas Bobcats, 15-0, in three innings at Wildcat Field. It was their fifth consecutive 8-3A conference victory.
Rison (7-9 overall and 6-2 in conference) can wrap up second place in the 8-3A with a road win over the McGehee Owls this Friday. That would give the ‘Cats the league’s no. 2 seed heading into the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament next week at Bismarck.
Technically, the Wildcats still have a shot at the no. 1 seed should the DeWitt Dragons lose to Drew Central Friday and Rison then beat the Dragons by more than four runs on Monday.
Rison and DeWitt were scheduled to play this past Friday but the game was rained out.
The Wildcats scored six runs in the first inning against the Bobcats before adding nine more in the second to invoke the 15-run rule and end the game after three innings.
Five of Rison’s six runs in the first inning came with two out.
After the ‘Cats drew back-to-back walks to open the frame, a strikeout resulted in the first out before Henry Garner scored on an error. A fly ball gave Rison its second out with Jaxon Power parked at third.
Edwards, Easton Billings and Brody Howard all drew walks while Power and Edwards scored off an error and passed ball to make it 3-0. Logan McGarity followed with a double to drive in Billings, and Howard and McGarity both eventually scored on passed balls to make it 6-0.
Rison’s first nine batters reached to the start the second inning.
Matheson led off with a single before Weaver walked. Brayden Terry followed with a hit that scored Matheson, and Edwards drew another walk to load the bases. Billings then singled to center to drivve in two runs before Howard’s double brought in another to make it 10-0.
Billings scored on a passed ball before McGarity drew yet another base-on-balls. Kyson Walker was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases, and Trent Southerland drew another walk to push another run home…
