Wildcats Press Dumas But Fall

DUMAS - Chandler Reeves' 13 points in the second quarter helped the Rison Wildcats grab the lead against league-leading Dumas at halftime, but the Bobcats came back in the second half to escape with a 54-49 victory in 8-3A conferenec action last Friday night at Dumas.Rison struggled out of the gate, scoring just five points in the opening frame as Dumas took an 11-5 lead into the second. That's when Chandler Reeves took over, hitting three field goals and knocking down 7-of-8 free throws as the Wildcats put up 24 point in taking a 29-23 lead in halftime.But Rison began to cool off in the third quarter as the Bobcats' Trevarious Poole hit a couple of 3-pointers and Marcus Kilgore scored eight points as Dumas regained the lead, 41-39, heading into the fourth quarter.The Wildcats used a couple of 3's from Christian Reeves and Jaquis Rauls to keep the Bobcats within reach over the final period, but Dumas' Raylen Spratt answered with six of his gamehigh 24 points in the fourth to preserve the victory.Chandler Reeves, who made 9-of-12 free throws in the game, led Rison with 19 points while Christian Reeves, who had three 3-pointers, finished with 17. Rauls had nine for Rison.The Wildcats fell to 6-8 overall and 3-7 in 8-3A conference play. Dumas improved to 16-7 overall and 8-3 in league action.Rison will complete the regular season this week by traveling to Helena on Tuesday night, Feb. 11, and then hosting McGehee this Friday in the regular season finale at the Rison gym.
