Wildcats Score Pair of 15-0 Victories

HELENA - Rison scored 15 runs in the top of the first inning as the Wildcats needed just three frames to blow out the Central Helena Cougars, 15-0, in 8-3A conference action Monday afternoon at Helena.The two teams were scheduled to meet again Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Field before Rison closes out the regular season with an important matchup with McGehee at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Wildcat Field.Should Rison win both of those games, the Wildcats would be no worse than 8-3A co-champions with DeWitt. The ‘Cats would also earn the league’s no. 1 seed going in next week’s Class 3A Region 4 Tournament at Ashdown by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker with DeWitt.Lawson Kidd got it started Monday at Helena with a triple to lead off the top of the first.  That was followed by three consecutive walks to push across the first run. Helena issued 12 walks over the three-inning game and also hit two batters.After those three walks, James Jacobs had a bases-loaded single to drive in two runs, and back-to-back hits by Mason Weaver and Brayden Terry scored another run to make it 4-0.After an infield fly for the first out, Aaron Tilley delivered a two-run single to left, and Kidd followed with a double that scored Terry to make it 7-0. Noah Matheson then drew a walk, and Tilley stole home to make it 8-0 before Andrew Couture was hit by a pitch.Ayden Laws followed with a hit that scored Kidd and Matheson, and an error on Jacobs’ grounder added another run to make it 11-0. Another walk and error tacked on one more run before three consecutive walks pushed three more runs across to make it 15-0.The top of the first finally came to a close when the Cougars got the final two outs on steal attempts.Rison used three pitchers with Matheson throwing the first, CJ Edwards the second and Kidd the third.
