Woodlawn Junior Teams Make Finals at Hamburg

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Junior Bears and Junior Lady Bears advanced to the finals of the Hamburg Junior High Tournament Saturday before both fell in the championship game. The Junior Bears were able to get revenge on the Hermitage Junior Hermitages in the semifinals last Thursday as Jude Roberts scored a game-high 31 points to lead Woodlawn to a 4029 victory. Hermitage had knocked off the Junior Bears the week before. Woodlawn was up 19-18 at the half and led 28-25 going in the fourth quarter when the Junior Bears pulled away with a 12-4 run to close out the game. Woodlawn Coach Logan Adair said Roberts scored all 19 of the Junior Bears' points in the first half. Jake Allred followed with seven. In the championship game, Adair said the Junior Bears faced what he considered to be the best junior high team he had ever played in the Dermott Junior Rams. Dermott roared out to a 21-6 lead by the end of the first period and were up 41-18 at the half. Roberts had 14 points for Woodlawn, which fell to 2-2 with the loss. Junior Lady Bears An 11-1 run in the third quar-ter helped the Woodlanw Junior Lady Bears pull away in the second half for a 29-13 win over the host Hamburg Junior Lady Lions in the Hamburg Junior High Tournament last Thursday. Kelsi Mack led the Junior Lady Bears with eight points followed by Addison Holland with five. That victory put Woodlawn in the tournament championship game against the Parkers Chapel Junior Lady Trojans. Adair said PC's post player was too much for them to handle as she scored a game-high 19 points. Seventh grader Presley Mack hit two 3-pointers to finish with six points for Woodlawn followed by Kelsi Mack with five.
