Woodlawn Rallies Past Ouachita, 73-69

DONALDSON - Jude Roberts scored 30 points while Raylon Lawson turned in on his best overall performances of the year as the Woodlawn Bears rallied past the Ouachita Warriors, 7369, to win their 6-2A conference opener last Friday night at Donaldson. Woodlawn was up 19-15 at the end of the first quarter before Ouachita got red hot in the second to outscore the Bears, 2512, and go up 40-31 at the half. The roles were reversed in the third quarter, however, as Woodlawn exploded for 27 points to go in front, 58-55, by the start of the final period. Ouachita reamained within striking distance for much of the fourth quarter before Wood-lawn's Garrett Weatherford nailed a 3-pointer with about two minutes left to give the Bears' a nine-point cushion down the stretch. Woodlawn Coach Logan Adair credited a solid defensive effort by the Bears in the final frame to pull off a big win over a team he considers to be a contender for the 6-2A conference title. Adair had high praise for Lawson's overall game, finishing with one of his best stat in his career: 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, eight blocks and five steals. "His defense in the fourth quarter was a big difference," Adair said. While Roberts' 30 points led the Bears in scoring, Warrior sophomore Judd Smith led all scorers with 33. Weatherford joined Lawson in finishing the game with 18 points. Woodlawn improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in 6-2A conference play with the victory. The Bears were scheduled to play at Fordyce Tuesday night in another key conference road game before traveling to Flippin to take on Harrisburg Friday night and Kingsland Saturday morning in the Flippin Classic.
