WOODLAWN - Woodlawn High School boys and girls basketball coaches Logan Adair (left) and Synthia English (second from left) present Julian Jones (second from right) and Justin Jones (right), the son and grandson, respectively, of the late Carl Jones, with a plaque recognizing Coach Jones’ long-time contributions to Woodlawn High School athletics. Woodlawn Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hancock and members of the Woodlawn School Board were on hand for the presentation that also recognized the 1967-68 school board members who helped pass a 5-mill tax increase to support a $138,258 bond issue that led to the construction of the current gym and what was then a cafeteria. The new gym and cafeteria opened during the 1968-69 school year. Since then, Woodlawn has constructed a new cafeteria, and that space was then used as a library and eventually as a weight room for athletics. Meanwhile, the gym has undergone some major renovations which include new gym floor, new lighting and an expanded lobby area. Carl Jones was the lone coach at Woodlawn High School for several years, coaching both girls and boys basketball as well as baseball.
