MONTICELLO - Woodlawn’s Jude Rauls set a new Arkansas High School Powerlifting Association (AHSPLA) record in the bench press and tied the record in total lift weight for the 148-pound classification at the Monticello Power Meet held Saturday at Monticello High School.
Rauls lifted 270 lbs. in the bench press, knocking off the previous 148-pound class record of 245 lbs. set by Harley Cotton of Star City in 2012.
In addition, Rauls lifted 330 lbs. in the squat and 405 lbs. in the dead lift for a total of 1,005 lbs. in all three lifts, matching Cotton’s AHSPLA record for the 148-pound division also set in 2012.
Woodlawn weightlifting coach Trent Young said Rauls’ 405 lbs. in the dead lift tied his personal best.
The meet included DeQueen, Hamburg, Monticello, Star City and Woodlawn.
The Bears took two of the top three places in the 148-pound division with Ethan Adair placing third after lifting 260 in the squat, 165 in the bench press and 300 in the dead lift for a 725 lbs. total.
Woodlawn lifter Ethan White, a freshman, won the 198-pound class after lifting 370 in the squat, 205 in the bench press and 390 in the dead lift for 965 lbs. total. He finished with 60 more pounds than the second-place finisher in his class.
Also, Kameron Manes won the 308 class with lifts of 410 in the squat, 205 in the bench, 330 in the dead lift for 945 total.
The results for other Woodlawn lifters by weight classification were:
