Woodlawn's Jude Rauls Ties State Record at Power Meet

MONTICELLO - Woodlawn freshman Jude Rauls was named the Best Lifter in the 114-165 pound weight classifications at the Arkansas High School Power Lifting Association (AHSPLA) meet held this past Saturday, Jan. 21, at Monticello High School. Rauls, competing in the 148 pound classification, tied a state record in the bench press with a lift of 245 lbs. While the lift tied the state records for both the 148 and 165 pound classifications, Woodlawn weightlifting coach Trent Young said it was still not Rauls' personal best in the bench, which was 260 lbs. last year. Rauls also lifted 295 lbs. in the squat and had a personal best of 375 lbs. in the dead lift for a total of 915 lbs. Lifted at the meet. That was good enough for first place in the 148-pound classification. Young said Rauls was also the best lifter in the 114-165 pound classifications based on the Schwartz formula, which measures a lifters performance based on his body weight. Rauls had a 667.40 Schwartz rating, finishing ahead of of the 635.39 rating for Chris Simpson of Monticello. Rauls' score was also higher than the Schwartz rating for Ethan McElroy of Crossett, who was the top lifter in the 181-Super Heavyweight classification with a 650.76 rating. Young said Rauls was one of three Woodlawn lifters to compete at the meet. Aidan Moore finished sixth in the 148-pound division with lifts of 150 lbs. in the bench press, 230 lbs. in the squat and 305 lbs. in the dead lift for a total of 685 lbs. Young said Moore's lift in the bench tied his personal best, noting that he had a knee give way while trying to squat 255 lbs. Nick Sullivan was third in the 198-pound classification with a lift total of 790 lbs. He squatted 295 lbs., bench pressed 165 lbs. (tied his personal max) and dead lifted 330 lbs (beating his personal max). With just three lifters competing, Woodlawn finished third in the four-team meet. Monticello won the meet...
