Laws Sparks Big Inning As Wildcats Beat Magnet Cove

MAGNET COVE - Ayden Laws had two singles to drive in two runs in an eight-run fourth inning as the Rison Wildcats finished the Magnet Cove Tournament with a 14-9 win over the host team, the Magnet Cove Panthers, on Saturday.Rison improved to 2-6 overall with the non-conference win.Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings before the 'Cats put up eight runs in the top of the fourth.Canon Cope walked to start the frame before Owen Morrison was hit by a pitch. Laws then followed with a single to bring home the game's first score, and James Jacobs was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Jared Saeler then drew a walk to push another run across and Lawson Kidd had a sacrifice fly to score one more to make it 3-0.Jacobs then scored on a passed ball and an error on Andrew Couture's grounder made it 5-0. Brock Southerland followed with a single and Cope grounded out to drive in another run. Back-to-back singles by Morrison and Laws tacked on two more scores to make it 8-0.Rison stretched its lead in the top of the fifth inning when two walks and another hit batter loaded the bases with one out. Southerland brought a run home off a fly to center, and Cope followed with a double that added two more, and Morrison delivered an RBI single to make it 12-0.The Panthers started getting some free bases themselves in the bottom of the fifth, using five walks, an error and a single to plate five runs to make it 12-5.The Wildcats added its final two runs off RBI hits from Southerland and Laws to go up 14-5.Magnet Cove did not go away quietly, however, as the Panthers used five singles, a walk, a sacrifice fly, an errror and a fielder's choice to plate four runs in the bottom of the seventh before a fly ball ended the game.Laws had three hits with three RBIs to lead the Rison batting order. Southerland and Morrison had two hits with two RBIs apiece while Cope had one hit and three RBIs.Rison drew 12 walks and had four batters hits by pitches in the game…
