RISON - The special Republican primary election for District 1 State Senate between Laura “Missy” Wardlaw of Hermitage and Harrell Wilson of the Staves community will be this Tuesday, Aug. 18, at locations across the county.
Meanwhile, early voting for the special primary is currently underway from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building, 404 Sycamore Street across the courthouse in Rison. There is no Saturday early voting. The final day for early voting is Monday, Aug. 17.
The candidate who wins the Republican special primary will face Democratic nominee, Mayor Tomeka Butler of Eudora, in the special election that will coincide with the general election on Nov. 3.
The District 1 seat became vacant when former State Senator Ben Gilmore resigned the office in late June to become a senior adviser in the Arkansas Attorney General’s office.

• Hurricane - Union Methodist Church, 21230 Hwy. 35 South, Rye community
• Kingsland (In/Out) and Saline - Kingsland Missionary Baptist Church, 200 1st Street, Kingsland
• Lee - Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church, 13600 Hwy. 189 South, New Edinburg
• Miller - Woodlawn Community Center, 6270 U.S. Hwy. 63, Woodlawn community
