RISON - The Arkansas Hare Scramble Championship Series will be holding an off-road mo‐torcycle racing event Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20-21, near the Rye community southeast Cleveland County.

The event, called “Screaming Chicken” will be held at a loca‐tion on Curry Road, west of the intersection at Rye Cutoff Road. A practice session will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, while races will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21.

Gate fees are $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 7 to 17, and free for youth age 6 and under.

Donald Mull of Herbine, who is helping organize the event, said spectators as well as anyone who has an off-road motorcycle and would like to participate in the races is welcome to attend. There age divisions for the races ranging from 6 and under to adult.

“Hare scrambles” are off-road motorcycle races that follow a trail through the terrain of the land rather than a fixed track like motocross racing. The course for Screaming Chicken is de‐scribed as a trail through a pine plantation with some creek bot‐toms included as well.

Organizers describe it as an ideal course for those who would like to try a hare scramble for the first time since it lacks large hills to climb and there are no rocks on the course.

There are two courses for the Screaming Chicken: a short course and a long course.

Sign-ups for the races begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, with a 15-minute peewee race sched‐uled to start at 8:15 a.m. fol‐lowed by a 30-minute kids race at 9 a.m. The adult divisions be‐gin with a 45-minute short course race at 10 a.m. followed by a 2-hour long course race at 12:30 p.m.
