RISON - The M60 Army tank is expected to arrive at Veterans Park in Rison sometime between mid- and late-morning this Saturday, Sept. 19, Randy Morgan with the Cleveland County Veterans Association said Tuesday.
Morgan said the tank is scheduled to be loaded at about 7 a.m. Saturday from its current location at the Preston Malloy VFW-Post 9360 in Hamburg and transported directly to Rison. It has been on display at Hamburg for the past 22 years.
He said the scheduled route will have it travel from Warren along Hwy. 63 and along Hwy. 35 north to Rison.
Upon its arrival at Veterans Park, expect a section of Hwy. 35 (Magnolia Street) in fronbt of the park to be temporarily closed while the tank is being put in place. A detour will be available.
Morgan said he expects the tank to be available to the public sometime early Saturday afternoon.
Production of the M60, an upgraded version of the M48 Patton tank, began in 1960 and continued through 1987. It was used extensively in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
Hwy. 35 (Magnolia Street) in front of Veterans Park will likely be temporarily closed as the trailer carrying the tank maneuvers it into position at the park. A Detour will be made during that time.
