Rison Awarded Nearly $100,000 for City Parks

RISON - The City of Rison nas been awarded nearly $100,000 to make improvements to both Powell Park and Veterans Park in Rison, Gov. Asa Hutchinson's office has announced. Rison Mayor Charles Roberts said he received a letter last week from the governor's office informing him that the city had been awarded $99,968 through the Facilities for Underdeveloped Neighborhoods (FUN) Park Grant administed through the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. Roberts said the money will be used to renovate the paved walking track at Veterans Park as well as add "sensory stations," benches and parking to the parks. The mayor said he plans to use the grant money to level out and re-seal the paved walking track at Veterans Park. As for the "sensory stations," Roberts explained this will be playground equipment that is suitable for children of all abilities. A public meeting about the parks grant was held earlier this year at Rison City Hall. Roberts worked with the Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District to put together the grant application to the state. Roberts also mentioned that he expects to be able to make some announcements soon regarding the city's grant applications for money to make improvements to the city's water and sewer systems. ...
