Court of Appeals Denies Appeal of Murder Conviction

The Arkansas Court of Appeals has denied an appeal by Emily Kate-Marie Brown, who was convicted by a Cleveland County jury of first-degree murder last year in the August 2022 shooting death of her ex-boyfriend, Christopher Miller.

Brown argued the state failed to disprove her self-defense claim and that the trial court erred by allowing parts of a recorded interview into evidence. While the court acknowledged evidence of prior abuse, it ruled there was no imminent threat justifying deadly force.

The court also upheld the admission of the interview, citing circumstantial evidence that undermined Brown’s self-defense claim.
