Justice of the Peace/Woodlawn Fire Chief Owen Rushing Passes Away

Owen Rushing, 84, of Calmer, passed away last Friday, Dec. 23, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He had served as the District 6 Justice of the Peace on the Cleveland County Quorum Court since 2007, and was a long-time fire chief of the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department, an organization he has served for more than 40 years. The Cleveland County Quorum Court is expected to vote on a resolution during its regular monthly meeting Monday night, Jan. 5, declaring the District 6 seat vacant. The governor will then appoint someone from District 6 to fill the remainder of Rushing’s current term, which ends Dec. 31, 2026.
