Liberty Tree Planted at Pioneer Village

Body

A “Liberty Tree” was planted Tuesday at the Pioneer Village in Rison to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary and honor the original elm in Boston that symbolized early colonial resistance to British rule. Donated by the Cleveland County Historical Society, the tree is part of a regional effort led by local Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution chapters to plant five such trees. The Rison tree will also honor country music legend Johnny Cash, whose Bicentennial concert helped raise money to establish the Pioneer Village. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for April 11 during the Pioneer Crafts Festival, celebrating both local heritage and national history.
