Quorum Court To Address Two Vacancies

Body

The Cleveland County Quorum Court will be addressing two vacancies when it convenes this evening for its regular monthly meeting. Both the office of County Judge and District 6 Justice of the Peace are now vacant following the deaths of Jimmy Dale Adair and Owen Rushing, respectively. Justice of the Peace Donnie Herring of the Pleasant Ridge community was elected moderator by his peers and will preside over the meeting. The Association of Arkansas Counties (AAC) informed Herring after passing of Cummings that the county would need to publish a public notice in the newspaper informing the public as to when the quorum court will meet to declare the county judge's office vacant, after which time the quorum court can appoint a county judge to serve through Dec. 31. The governor’s office will appoint the person to fill the District 6 JP seat.
