Woodlawn received a boost during its bye week when All-State athlete Ethan Saeler was cleared to return after Tommy John surgery, although he is not allowed to throw. Coach Doug Means plans to use the junior at running back, receiver and possibly defensive end or free safety while keeping senior Parker Arnold at quarterback. Saeler helped lead the Bears to a 10-1 record and state finals appearance last season. Woodlawn enters Friday’s South Conference opener and Homecoming game against winless Friendship Aspire at 1-2, looking to improve after suffering a 60-8 loss to Izard County. Means also emphasized reducing turnovers and improving practice intensity.
