A fast-moving line of thunderstorms moving through Cleveland County Sunday evening knocking out power to several areas of the county as well as blowing over trees. The C&L Electric Cooperative reported that more than 25 percent of its customers in Cleveland County had lost power after the storms passed through the county at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Nearly half of the Entergy customers in the City of Rison, including the business district at the Hwy. 35/79 intersection, lost power for a couple of hours Sunday evening. There were also reports of trees being blown down across state and county roadways, and part of the roof at one of the exhibit buildings at the Pioneer Village was blown off by the storm as well. The storms were spurred by a strong cold front that moved across the state. Temperatures fell into the lower to mid-30’s by Monday morning. The National Weather Service placed Cleveland County and much of Arkansas under a freeze warning Tuesday morning, predicting a low of about 24 for Rison.
