While the Rison Wildcats had a key 8-3A conference game at DeWitt on Friday postponed due to rain, the ‘Cats are in a position to finish as high a second in the league with an outside shot of winning the title. The 8-3A does not have a district tournament so teams qualify for the regional tournaments based on their finish in the round-robin conference schedule.
The Wildcats (6-9 overall and 5-2 in conference) are set to play a conference game against Dumas today (Monday, April 27) at Wildcat Field before traveling to McGehee on Friday and league-leading DeWitt on Monday. Rison has already defeated both Dumas and McGehee in their first games, and should they win both, would lock up at least the 8-3A’s no. 2 seed for the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament next week. For the ‘Cats to have a shot at the no. 1 seed, DeWitt (currently 8-0 in conference play) would have to lose at least one more game and would have to win by more than 4 runs at DeWitt on Monday.
The Lady Wildcats (5-11 overall and 1-3 in conference) have a double header today at Dumas before playing at McGehee on Friday. The Lady ‘Cats, currently fourth in the standings, will need to win at least one game at Dumas today to maintain their position was one of the four teams to advance to the regionials.
