Brad Young of the Rowell community won 58 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s Republican primary election, giving him an outright victory without a runoff in the three-way race.

Young came out on top with 1,058 votes while Vance Lee Freeman followed with 465 (25 percent) and Keden Shrum with 314 (17 percent).

Since there are no other candidates running for sheriff, Young will be unopposed in the November general election. He will take office on Jan. 1, 2027, succeeding Sheriff Jack Rodgers, who is retiring after nearly 50 years with the sheriff’s department.
